As we're circling the release of React Router v7 we've started deprecating some old APIs and adding new ones to help make the upgrade process as smooth as possible. Plus, we've freshened up the React Router logo and have a few other resources to share. Let's dive in!
Remix v2.14.0 & React Router v6.28.0
The latest versions of Remix and React Router introduce a few deprecations and new features to help smooth the upgrade process to React Router v7.

routes.ts in Remix
If you haven't seen already, we're improving how to configure routes in React Router v7. We will still have support for file based routing, however the default when using the Vite plugin will be config-based routing.
To help minimize the number of changes required when moving your Remix project over to React Router v7, we've added support for routes.ts and its related APIs in Remix behind a future flag. While some new packages have been introduced within the @remix-run scope, these new packages only exist to keep the code in routes.ts as similar as possible to the equivalent code for React Router v7.
To start leveraging this new API, you can enable the unstable_routeConfig future flag in your Vite config.
Next create a routes.ts file in the app directory. You can also use the flatRoutes function to continue leveraging Remix's built-in file system routing.

React Router Brand Update
With the upcoming release of React Router v7, we figured it was a good time to look at our trusty old logo and see if there was anything we could do to freshen it up.
Staff Product Designer, Tim Quirino, shared in a post some of the history of the React Router logo and the process we took in determining a final design. From Tim's article:
the process is a reflection of the way the Remix team works. Far from being linear, this task meandered playfully without compromising detail and intentionality. Perhaps more importantly, it's a true evolution—one that allows us to be more flexible and creative about our identity—without losing sight of how we got here.

"How React Router Became a Framework" Talk
Mark Dalgleish, one of the Remix core team members, gave a talk at React Advanced 2024 about the evolution of Remix, React Router, and how the two projects have influenced each other and how we reached the point where we are today. If you're still unsure why we're moving the Vite plugin into React Router, or have a friend or colleague who is, this talk provides another helpful perspective on the journey we've been taking.
